Decatur police: 'Armed and dangerous' suspect in gas station shooting turns himself in

Jul. 15—The suspect in a July 7 shooting at a Decatur gas station that left two people injured turned himself in to police on Sunday, a day after they requested the public's assistance in locating him, according to the Decatur Police Department.

Amreion Jamall Lampkin, 20, of Madison, is charged with first-degree assault and on Monday remained in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond, jail records show.

Decatur police said they responded to the shooting at the Chevron gas station at 1029 Danville Road S.W. at around 8:43 p.m. on July 7 to find two people had been shot. Both were transported to Huntsville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said an occupied vehicle and an occupied residence were also hit by bullets.

On Saturday, police asked for the public's assistance in locating Lampkin, who they cautioned was "armed and dangerous."

Court records show Lampkin was arrested on March 6 and charged in Morgan County with second-degree receiving stolen property and drug possession. He was out on bond at the time of the alleged shooting.
