Decatur police: Somerville man stole motorcycle from uncle

Jul. 17—A Somerville man accused of stealing a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom motorcycle from his uncle was arrested on Monday, according to a Decatur police detective's affidavit.

Jason Don McDougald, 49, is charged with first-degree theft, a Class B felony, and remained in Morgan County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of a $5,000 bond, jail records show.

According to Det. Joshua Heflin's affidavit, McDougald's uncle reported to DPD that the motorcycle was stolen from the 1400 block of Somerville Road Southeast on June 28, and security video from a nearby church showed two white men arrive at the residence in a maroon Honda Civic.

"One male, identified as Jason McDougald, breaks the lock off of (his uncle's) shed before both males enter the shed," the affidavit reads. "McDougald is seen riding the motorcycle away from the residence."

McDougald's uncle was able to identify him, according to the affidavit, and the Honda Civic was registered to McDougald's mother.
