The Delaware Delegation to the 2024 Democratic National Convention is giving its unanimous support to Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nominee.

In a virtual meeting Monday night, delegates noted their appreciation for Biden’s leadership and dedication to public service in both the First State and as President, as well as their respect for his decision to end his campaign for re-election this past weekend.

State Chair Betsy Maron acknowledged “the special bond” Biden shares with Delaware – and how the delegates will further solidify that same bond in backing Harris.

“While many in our delegation were looking forward to re-electing their longtime friend and fellow Delaware Democrat, Joe Biden, they also understood the courageous choice that he made,” Maron said in a written statement. “Joe recognized that Kamala Harris is uniquely qualified to be President on day one, having been in the room for many of the administration's key accomplishments. Our delegation’s unanimous vote of support is an acknowledgment of that fact.”

According to the statement, the party will be joining President Joe Biden, Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester in their support for Harris.

Gov. Carney announces support of Harris

Gov. John Carney has also thrown his support behind the Harris campaign.

In a statement issued July 22, Carney shared his pride at welcoming Harris to Wilmington Monday afternoon, and – as a delegate himself – his intent to cast a vote in support of the vice president at the DNC in Chicago next month.

Who else is supporting Kamala Harris in Delaware?

Sen. Coons, who previously served as the co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign back in 2020, along with announcing his endorsement for Harris, has been urging fellow Democrats to do the same.

Both Rep. Blunt Rochester and Sen. Carper have also announced their support for Harris.

"As a party, Democrats have always been united in defeating Donald Trump, continuing to build the economy from the bottom up and middle out, restoring our reproductive freedoms for every woman in this country, protecting Social Security and Medicare, and beating back Project 2025," Blunt Rochester said in a statement released Sunday, July 21. "There is no better person or leader more equipped to do so than Vice President Kamala Harris."

Carper followed suit on Monday with a post on X.

"Kamala Harris is a tried & true public servant & today, I am proud to endorse her for the President of the United States," Carper said.
