Delaware flags will be lowered to half-staff this weekend in honor of a former state senator.

Dorinda “Dori” Connor was a Delaware state senator, representing District 12 for more than a decade after her husband, Bob, died in 1997 and left the seat open. She previously worked as his partner for 23 years. Combined, the Connors served Delaware for more than 40 years, with Dori advocating for legislation for nursing home reform, domestic violence issues, minimum wage, public safety, stopping human trafficking and much more.

Dori Connor died on June 30 after a 10-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

In honor of Dori Connor, Gov. John Carney on July 8 ordered all Delaware flags to be lowered to half-staff at all state facilities on Saturday, July 13, the day of her interment.

Politics: The veteran Delaware politician who wouldn't retire. It's not who you think

“Tracey and I were saddened to hear of the loss of Dori Connor. Dori and her husband Bob were quite a team – working together to better greater New Castle for decades. They were respected educators and legislators. They worked to make government more transparent and responsive to the concerns of ordinary people,” said Gov. Carney. “As a Delaware State Senator, Dori was a champion of people with disabilities and victims of crimes. She represented all her constituents well. She always had a big smile and a pleasant word for everyone she worked with. Her spirit and goodwill will be missed. Our thoughts go out to Dori’s sons and friends during this difficult time.”

A viewing for Dori Connor will be held on Friday, July 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home at 635 Churchmans Road near Christiana. Interment will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 801 North Dupont Highway.
