Delaware man charged in Maryland shooting that left 2 dead, 2 injured last month

A 23-year-old New Castle-area man has been charged in connection with a Maryland shooting that left two Delaware men dead and two others injured in Cecil County last month.

Killed in the Nov. 2 incident were Tamir Rasheek Davis of New Castle and Darius Anthony Blalock of Bear. Both victims were 26.

Justice Schmeek Pratt of the New Castle area has been charged with second-degree murder, Maryland State Police said.

Police did not go into detail Friday morning on why Pratt is charged with only one killing, but in a statement to Delaware Online/Then News Journal said the "investigation is still active and charges could still change based on the outcome of the investigation."

The victims, according to police, were inside a home on Chestnut Drive – north of Elkton – when an argument broke out.

When the fight moved outside the house, police said, Pratt started firing shots into a crowd that had formed.

The gunfire broke up the crowd, with some fleeing the area and some being taken to area hospitals.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after 6 a.m. after someone reported a man lying in the roadway. The man was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to Christiana Hospital.

Private vehicles transported Davis and a woman to medical care, according to police.

Davis was taken to Christiana Hospital where he died, police said. The woman was taken to ChristianaCare Union Hospital in Elkton where she was treated for her injuries.

Later that morning, police reported that Blalock was found lying on the shoulder of I-95 south at the 107.2-mile marker, just past a bridge over Maryland's Big Elk Creek. He was dead.

Justice Schmeek Pratt's arrest

The Maryland State Apprehension Team, along with Delaware State Police and the First State Fugitive Task Force, arrested Pratt on Wednesday afternoon at a home in the 200 block of Channing Drive.

Also found in the house were two pistols along with several rounds of ammunition, police said.

In addition to the murder charge, police said Pratt faces charges of assault, reckless endangerment and multiple weapons offenses.

Police no longer searching for driver

Last month, Maryland State Police said they were searching for 24-year-old Jose Luis Morales in connection with this shooting.

Police had said Morales was the driver of a silver 2010 Honda Odyssey associated with the Nov. 2 fight that resulted in the shooting.

But on Friday, police said they are no longer searching for Morales or the driver of the Honda.

Police said their investigation continues and anyone with information regarding this shooting should contact Maryland State Police at the North East Barrack at (410) 996-7800. Callers may remain anonymous.
