Delvin Tarver’s family: “We will find his killer,” as new images shared in case

UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (WRBL) – Investigators are releasing exclusive new images to WRBL as the hunt continues for the shooter who struck down Delvin Tarver, an 18-year-old senior at Auburn High School, just weeks before his graduation. Delvin, known for his love of learning and compassionate spirit, was struck by a stray bullet during an altercation he wasn’t involved in, leaving his family devastated and the community grieving.

On Friday, WRBL met with Union Springs investigators to review surveillance video from the morning of the shooting, which took place just before Delvin’s bright future was stolen in a CVS parking lot in Union Springs off Baskin Street. A fight, which Delvin didn’t even know about, broke out. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Bureau of Investigations is assisting in the case.

Now, nearly two months after the shooting, Union Springs investigators are asking the community for help identifying these individuals who were present during the shooting:

  1. Male, green shirt, gold or orange backpack, large necklace.

  2. Male, acid wash jeans, dark shirt with a possible King of Hearts playing card graphic, black and white tennis shoes.

  3. Female, long honey-blonde hair, black shorts, lime green shoes, seen opening the back passenger door of a white SUV.

  4. Male, wearing all black, smoking or vaping.

  5. Male, looks like he’s taking a selfie, white shirt, gold earring.

  6. Male, crossbody bag.

  7. Female, updo hairstyle, khaki shorts, white shirt, black shoes.

Police are urging those who were in the parking lot before and during the shooting to please come forward. If you recognize the individuals in the pictures and come forward, you can remain anonymous and earn a $1,500 reward if the information you provide leads to an arrest.

On Monday, July 1, the mayor of Union Springs is holding a news conference asking for the community’s help.

This tragedy marks the second time Cynthia Quinn has buried a child. In 2006, her four-year-old daughter drowned in a horrific accident. Her anguish is palpable as she recounts Delvin’s final moments.

“My understanding is Delvin wasn’t feeling well, so he stayed in the car – he never got out – an altercation allegedly happened, and gunfire was exchanged – and he got hit by a stray bullet,” said Cynthia. “He said, ‘mama,’ and his last words were ‘mama.’ He kept saying ‘mama.’”

Cynthia Quinn’s heartache is shared by her sister, Sweetie Henderson, who fervently calls for those with information to come forward.

“I really, really want them to find it in their heart, if they have any Christlike in them, to come forward, give us peace, and give my sister closure.”

Cynthia is begging people who know something to say something.

“It’s OK, don’t be afraid to let law enforcement know that you saw something because it’s Delvin today, but it could be your brother tomorrow and he would want the same justice for your brother.”

The Union Springs Police Department urges anyone with information to call 334-738-3131. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867). A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
