TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday that bans intentional balloon releases.

House Bill 321 makes it unlawful for any person or organization to organize or intentionally cause the release of balloons. Violating this bill will result in a noncriminal littering infraction.

Florida state employees will get an extra day off for 4th of July weekend

Exceptions to the bill include any balloons released on behalf of a governmental agency, balloons released indoors, or hot air balloons.

Anyone under the age of six would not be penalized under the revised bill.

The bill also states that the court may require those who violate this order to pick up litter or participate in equivalent labor based on the crime committed.

The bill hit DeSantis’ desk in March and has been filed for nearly seven months before officially being approved Monday.

HB321 will be effective beginning July 1.
