DeWitt Public Schools' new superintendent has roots in Portland, Potterville

DeWITT — Kevin Robydek is the new superintendent of DeWitt Public Schools, and his new leadership position isn’t far from his last education post.

Robydek was Potterville Public Schools’ top leader, a position he began in 2018, until DeWitt’s school board recently chose him as the district’s next top administrator.

He vied for the position with John Denney, superintendent of the Hanover-Horton School District in Horton, and Kristy Taylor, a middle school principal for Jefferson Schools in Monroe

Robydek officially started his new job on Monday, and he’s written an online message for families in the district that comprises about 3,100 students, twice the number of Potterville students.

“It is with great joy and enthusiasm to be writing this letter to you today,” he said. “I am excited to be part of a school district and community that values excellence in academics, the arts, extracurriculars, and athletics.

“This dedication to greatness is evident in DeWitt's vibrant community spirit, where citizens take immense pride in their youth and offer steadfast support for the district’s programs and educational initiatives," he said.

Robydek has an educational specialist degree from the University of Michigan and lives in Portland with his family, according to the Michigan Association of School Boards, which announced Robydek’s new job.

He also has served as a special education teacher and principal.

Stacy Ann Sipes, Potterville's school board president, said the MASB will help in the district's search for a new superintendent. For now, district officials are negotiating a contract for Samuel Sinicropi to serve as interim superintendent during the 2024-25 academic year.

Sinicropi has experience as superintendent at Saline Area Schools from July 2002 to June 2006. He also has served as interim superintendent for the Lansing School District, where he filled various positions at the school district starting in December 1969.
