District attorney's chief investigator earns prestigious award

District 22 Chief Investigator Doug Parker was selected by the State of Oklahoma District Attorneys Association as the 2024 DA Investigator of the Year, District 22 District Attorney Erik Johnson said Thursday.

The selection was a competitive process with candidates from across the state.

Parker has been employed by District 22 since January 2023 after retiring from the Oklahoma City Police Department, where he spent 24 years as a detective, primarily in the Special Victims Unit, before finishing his OCPD career as a detective in the Homicide Division.

"Doug came on board with me at the beginning of my term and has been instrumental in developing the investigative resources within my office," Johnson said. "Doug is a true professional who provides excellent guidance to our agents on the Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, as well as the other investigators both in our office and our companion law enforcement agencies."

District attorney investigators are the investigative arm of DA offices and hold statewide jurisdiction to investigate crimes, Johnson said. Parker is also cross-certified with the federal government through the Safe Trails program.

"Doug is a valuable resource and a wealth of knowledge in the investigation of crimes against children and other violent crimes and gives back to his companion law enforcement officers by teaching programs within our District and across the state on the investigation of child abuse cases," Johnson said.

"Doug has been a presenter at numerous law enforcement trainings, including teaching a course on the investigation of child sexual abuse cases to district attorneys offices across the state at the Summer Annual Conference in Tulsa this month. I am very proud of Doug and his great work for victims of crimes in our District and look forward to all of us benefiting from his expertise in the future."

Johnson is the District Attorney for Pontotoc, Seminole and Hughes County.
