As the Democratic National Convention nears, all eyes are on President Joe Biden as calls for him to resign continue to trickle in from those within his own party.

Meanwhile, the Republican National Convention is underway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Donald Trump formally accepted the party's nomination and announced Ohio Sen. JD Vance. The RNC began only a day after an assassination attempt against the former president at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Here's what we know about the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

When is the 2024 DNC?

The DNC will be held from Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug 22.

Where is the 2024 DNC?

The 2024 DNC will be held at the United Center in Chicago.

When was the last time the DNC was held in Chicago?

This is the first time the convention will be held there since 1996, when former President Bill Clinton was nominated for his second term. Before that, the last time it was held there was in 1968 when there were protests stemming from the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War.

This will be the 12th time the DNC has been held in Chicago.

The last DNC was held virtually in Wilmington, Delaware, where Biden officially accepted the Democratic nomination for president.

Delegates for the Democratic Party will travel to the DNC to officially nominate the Democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 election. Delegates from each state and U.S. territory will vote based on their primary election results.

Will President Joe Biden drop out?

Calls for Biden to step down due the appearance of decline health began following his debate performance against Trump, where he stumbled over words and corrected himself with numbers. Biden's team initially attributed his raspy voice to a cold, but also blamed jet lag from recent travels overseas for his poor performance on stage.

Biden has said multiple times that he will not resign and that he is the right person for the job.

Will Joe Biden remain the nominee?

As of now, President Joe Biden is the expected presidential nominee. Biden said only "the Lord almighty" could convince him to step down and let another Democrat assume the role. While delegates typically support the candidate who won their party's primary, they are only obligated to support that candidate in "good conscience" and could vote for another candidate even with Biden still in the race.

Who could replace Biden as the nominee?

Marianne Williamson is technically still in the race after unsuspending her campaign in late February. However, she has received zero delegates. Rep. Dean Phillips (D- MN) dropped out after Super Tuesday, receiving four delegates overall.

Many have also suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris to step in as the nominee. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker have all also been floated as possible replacements. However, they're all Biden supporters and campaign surrogates who are working to help get him reelected.

Who has called for Biden to step down?

Several Democratic members of Congress and some from the Senate have issued statements request Biden drop out of the race and allow for another candidate to challenge Trump. These include:

Along with lawmakers, celebrities such as George Clooney and Charles Barkley have urged Biden to step aside.
