DNR to auction off land parcels, including waterfront property

NORTHERN MICHIGAN — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will be placing 91 properties up for auction in August and early September, with sought-after lakefront and riverfront parcels on the list.

The DNR regularly offers surplus land sales as part of its public land strategy. According to the DNR, auction proceeds will be reinvested in acquiring critical land for the public to help provide future outdoor recreation opportunities.

Parcels in more than two dozen counties will be up for bid in 11 online auctions between Aug. 2 and Sept. 5.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, land in Chippewa, Luce and Mackinac counties will be available. On Thursday, Aug. 8, land in Crawford, Missaukee, Ogemaw, Otsego and Roscommon counties will be open for bid. On Friday, Aug. 9, the auction for land in Antrim and Charlevoix counties will take place. On Tuesday, Aug. 13, parcels in Alpena, Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties will be available.

The DNR describes many of the sale parcels as forested, and some have road or river frontage. Properties for sale range in size from under an acre to 160 acres.

Notable waterfront properties include a Chippewa County property with frontage on Trout Lake and an Otsego County property with frontage on Seminole Lake.

If you would like to bid on a property, you must register before the property’s auction date. Absentee bids can be made up to 30 days before an auction.

The “interactive” bidding portion of an auction will open at 10 a.m. on that auction date. At that time, bidders will be able to see current high bids for each property. Bidders can continue to place bids on a property throughout the day until 7 p.m. when bidding closes and the winning bidder is determined.
