Tristan Alexander Colgrove, 24, is facing the charge after he confronted a 26-year-old man on Monday, July 8, outside of an apartment complex located at 3435 Fred Wilson Ave.

Court documents say the 26-year-old man’s girlfriend who’s been identified as V.S., spoke with police and said that the victim had been living with her for a week. She told police that they got into an argument on Sunday, July 7, and that she called her daughter because she was scared.

The victim’s girlfriend told police that her daughter and her son arrived at the apartment the next day and her daughter told the victim to leave the apartment. While this was happening, Colgrove along with two men also arrived at the apartment.

Court documents say that once the victim was leaving the apartment and walking towards the stairs, Colgrove pushed him down the stairs and they both began fighting on the stairway.

Court documents say the victim then stabbed Colgrove and ran towards the 5300 block of Byron. Colgrove and the other men chased him and that’s when witnesses including the victim’s girlfriend heard a gunshot.

V.S.’s daughter also spoke with police and said that when her mother called her that day, she was playing video games online with Colgrove. Colgrove was with the same two men, who have been identified as I.V. and J.S.

V.S.’s daughter told Colgrove what was happening with her mother and the victim. She then heard Colgrove ask J.S. if they wanted to jump the victim, according to court documents.

V.S.’s daughter told police that Colgrove and the two men were planning on how they were going to jump the victim, according to court documents. V.S.’s daughter then told Colgrove that she would let him know when she would be arriving at her mother’s apartment.

Just after 6 a.m. that Monday, police were dispatched to the 5300 block of Byron Street in reference to a welfare check. After officers arrived, they discovered the 26-year-old man dead on a sidewalk near the area.

Court documents say the man had a gunshot wound and officers also discovered a blood trail near his body which led to an apartment located at 3401 Fred Wilson Ave.

Officers then approached the apartment and encountered a woman, the same two men, and Colgrove inside.

The woman, who’s identified as N.M., said she heard Colgrove and the two men talking about going into an alleyway with the victim, which was near the apartment complex.

The men asked N.M. to bring her gun and they all walked to the other apartment complex located at 3435 Fred Wilson Ave. where the victim was staying at.

N.M. told police that she then saw Colgrove and the victim fighting. Colgrove then approached N.M. and grabbed her gun, according to court documents.

N.M. told police that she then heard a gunshot and ran back to her apartment. N.M. told police that the men also ran back to her apartment.

After the shooting, all three men got into N.M.’s vehicle to take Colgrove to the hospital to treat him for a stab wound that he sustained while fighting the victim, according to court documents.

Court documents say that while driving past the victim’s body, nobody called 911 and N.M. did not stop the vehicle.

Court documents say after the shooting, Colgrove told J.S. and I.V. to take the blame since Colgrove had felonies in Indiana/Indianapolis.

This led to I.V. taking the blame for Colgrove and J.S. also lied to police and told police that the victim was a “homeless man” and wanted to rob them, according to court documents.

After speaking to police a second time, I.V. told police that he did not shoot the victim as he stated in his first interview and said Colgrove shot the victim, according to court documents.
