A movie featuring iconic Sacramento locations is premiering this week at the Tribeca film festival in New York.

”Sacramento” stars Kristen Stewart, Maya Erskine and Michael Cera.

Michael Angarano, who directed and co-wrote the movie, also stars in the film.

The film follows Ricky, “an energetic and free-spirited young man who convinces Glenn, his long-time friend who’s settled into domestic life, to go on an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento,” according to a description on movie website IMDb.com.

“Sacramento” is scheduled to premiere on Saturday at OKX Theater in New York City.

Parts of the film were shot at well-known locations around the capital city, including Old Sacramento, Gunther’s Ice Cream, R Street Corridor, downtown Sacramento and East Sacramento.

Gunther’s Ice Cream, photographed in 2023, has been a Curtis Park staple since 1949.

Will ‘Sacramento’ movie play in local theaters?

As of Friday, “Sacramento” was not listed online as playing at any Sacramento-area movie theaters.

A spokesperson for the film had not responded to requests for comment about plans for local or nationwide theater distribution as of Friday.

Earlier this year, Tribeca Enterprises, the company that owns the film festival, announced it is launching a film distribution company,

Tribeca Films will distribute films on streaming services such as The Roku Channel, Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

The company plans to acquire 25 films per year, it said in a news release.

As of April 11, it had already acquired eight movies, sourced from various film festivals, the release said.
