When does University of Illinois start school? Here are move-in dates, when classes begin
The Champaign-Urbana area will see a swarm of college students and their families in town as the University of Illinois soon stages its annual move-in for the 2024-25 school year.
U of I is expected to have about 35,000 full-time undergraduate students and an additional 12,000 full-time graduate students. They'll come from all over the U.S. and about 130 countries. Last year, the university boasted a record incoming freshman class of 8,325.
First-year students must live on campus at the U of I, and its housing department guarantees a spot — but it appears the school has more students than capacity. The school announced last week a "larger than anticipated number of new students," according to the Champaign News-Gazette, and is offering $2,000 in credit and 100 meal swipes to up to 350 students willing to cancel their housing contract.
