TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office after leaving his dog out in the pouring rain, tethered to a pole.

Robo, a young bull terrier, roughly around 2-3 years old and 30 pounds, was left alone, strapped in his flooded doghouse, and unable to move, according to deputies.

When deputies arrived at the home on Christian Terrace on June 12, officials said it was pouring rain and the doghouse was flooded with 1-2 feet of water. Robo was rescued by Collier County Domestic Animal Services and the sheriff’s office’s Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance.

The dog’s owner, Romeo Gabriel-Lopez, 43, of Immokalee, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty due to not providing his animal with adequate shelter and for unlawfully tethering him, restricting his movement.

Gabriel-Lopez agreed to surrender Robo to a DAS officer who has since taken him into custody.

“We have zero-tolerance for animal cruelty in Collier County,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “Thanks to the diligent efforts by our Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance, Robo is safe and his owner is in our custody and will be held accountable for his neglectful actions.”
