I was disappointed to read a recent Letter to the Editor in which the writer accused Congressman Doggett of disloyalty to the Democratic Party in calling for President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

I feel proud for our area to be represented by Congressman Doggett as he stated the sad reality that President Biden’s chances of victory are too greatly diminished after his debate performance. Given that Donald Trump attempted to overturn a free and fair election, that he has vowed to be a dictator on day one, and that the Supreme Court has now granted presidents broad immunity from prosecution, Trump is an existential threat to democracy and the rule of law.

One of the values of our Austin area is openness, and I applaud Congressman Doggett for leading the way in openly calling for a Democratic nominee who can win in November.
