DOJ: Madera man sentenced for fentanyl death of teen

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man who supplied the fentanyl that led to the death of a Madera teenager was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on Monday by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.

According to court documents, on Aug. 13, 2021, 29-year-old Yovany Ramirez of Madera supplied a 19-year-old with the fentanyl pills that would kill him only hours later.

Federal attorneys say that further investigation led law enforcement to uncover additional evidence that Ramirez was dealing not only drugs but also firearms.

This joint investigation by the Madera Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations is part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge, a program created in 2018 aiming to reduce the supply of synthetic opioids as well as identify wholesale distribution networks and international and domestic suppliers.
