Dothan teen arrested in Blakely drive-by shooting, police say

BLAKELY, GA (WDHN) — A teen from Dothan is behind bars in southwest Georgia after police claim he was identified as a suspect in a drive-by shooting.

According to Blakely Police, 17-year-old Joseph Pelland was arrested on Friday, July 19, after investigators claimed he fired shots at an occupied home on Palmetto Avenue on Wednesday, July 17.

Police say Pelland was named a suspect after eyewitness reports, area surveillance cameras, and a license plate reader identified his car in the shooting.

Despite Pelland being a minor, Blakely Police Chief Will Caudill tells WDHN that anyone 17 and older in Georgia is automatically charged as an adult.

Pelland is charged with Aggravated Assault, Conspiracy to commit a crime, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and discharging a firearm near a roadway and is being held in the Early County Jail pending a first appearance.

A release from the BPD says the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected.

Chief Caudill wants to thank the Dothan Police Department for their help in the case.
