Double red flags in Bay County on Tuesday, July 9: Stay out of the Gulf

Bay County is at double red flags on Tuesday (July 9) which means Gulf waters are closed to the public.

The National Weather Service issued a Rip Current Statement at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday saying that a high rip current alert will remain in effect until late Tuesday. This applies to Walton, Bay, Gulf and Franklin County beaches.

If caught in a rip current, “Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help,” the National Weather Service says.

The high for Tuesday will be 91 degrees, with a heat index up to 108. Wednesday’s high will be 89 degrees, the National Weather Service says.

There is a 50% chance of thunderstorms in the area on Tuesday.
