Dover Township man to stand trial for alleged rape of 10-year-old child

A York County man is headed to trial on charges of alleged involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault, corruption of minors and rape of a child.

John Edward Allen, 62, of Dover Township agreed to stand trial, tentatively set for the week of Nov. 18, 2024, by Court of Common Pleas Judge Gregory M. Snyder on charges involving a 10-year-old victim.

The investigation began on Nov. 23, 2023, after The Northern York County Regional Police Department was contacted by a nurse at UPMC Hospital who reported an alleged sexual abuse incident, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Allen visited the child's home that day, where the victim later confided in a family member about the alleged ongoing abuse by him, which lasted three years.

The victim told officers that on several occasions she was left alone with Allen at his home, where the abuse occurred.

According to court documents, Allen allegedly had the victim lay on his bed before beginning multiple sexual acts on the child, including sexual penetration. During this time, the victim told officers she was given an iPad to occupy herself, according to court documents.

The victim told officers she was afraid Allen "would hurt her family if she told anyone what had beenhappening for the last three years."

On Dec. 4, 2023, officers interviewed Allen at his home, where he denied all charges made against him.
