Driver dies after truck flips, catches fire in southern Idaho

GEM COUNTY, Idaho (ABC4) — A driver was killed Friday afternoon in a fiery rollover crash in southern Idaho, according to Idaho State Police.

At around 2:30 p.m. on July 5, police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Sweet-Ola Highway at milepost 12, north of Emmett in Gem County.

A white 1990 Ford F-250 was southbound on the highway when the driver “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway,” Idaho State Police stated in a news release.

The truck reportedly went off the road where it overturned and came to a rest at the bottom of an embankment. The vehicle then caught fire, starting a brush fire in the area, police said.

The driver died on scene.

The Gem County Sheriff’s Office and Gem County Fire and Emergency Medical Services also responded to this incident. The Gem County coroner is reportedly working on the identification of the deceased at this time.

This crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
