Drivers beware: 4-mile stretch of I-5 to close for bridge work this weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – If you were inconvenienced by the recent partial closures on Interstate 5, you’ll want to find a new route when a full-blown closure takes place next weekend.

Bridge work near Southwest 26th Avenue will close a four-mile stretch of I-5, just south of Downtown Portland, throughout the last weekend of June, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

This closure comes as road workers do the bulk of their demolishing and adding of new asphalt between Friday, June 28 at 9 p.m. and Monday, July 1 at 5 a.m.

Last weekend, partial closures of single lanes and shoulder lanes took place in the same area.

ODOT said there may be even more nighttime I-5 closures to complete the work, though they would be planned for during the nighttime.
