Eight people rescued after boat crashes into rocks off Barnstable coast

No one was injured after a 36-foot vessel with eight people, including five children, aboard struck Colliers Ledge, according to the Barnstable Harbormaster's Office.

The Barnstable Harbormaster's Office was first notified about the incident around 8:15 a.m. on Saturday. The Harbormaster vessel Ocean 4 was sent along with the Barnstable Police Department, Hyannis Fire Department, Centerville-Osterville-Marstons-Mills Fire Department, and U.S. Coast Guard.

Ocean 4, with Deputy Harbormaster Jay Horn and Assistant Harbormaster Tyler McKay, arrived to the scene around 8:39 a.m. The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons-Mills fire boat had just arrived and confirmed that all eight people aboard were unharmed.

"Upon arrival, the vessel, identified as (a) 36-foot power vessel, was observed on the rocks with significant damage to its hull. Ocean 4 facilitated the safe transfer of five juvenile males and one adult female from the vessel to safety," reads a release from the Harbormaster's Office.

Two adults chose to stay aboard to wait for help from Towboat US. The individuals were safely brought to Bismore Park Marina in Hyannis by Ocean 4, which cleared the scene after the successful transfer and pick-up of the victims.

"Towboat US engaged and managed the vessel’s tow. Remaining Law Enforcement units remained on scene until the party and vessel were successfully removed. We commend the swift and coordinated efforts of all responding units in ensuring the safety of all individuals involved," said the Barnstable Harbormaster's Office.
