Campaign signs for local candidates are seen throughout Leon County prior to primary elections Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.

The League of Women Voters of Tallahassee (LWVT), Leon County Office of Resource Stewardship, the Leon County Supervisor of Elections and Marpan Recycling are partnering to provide a "Campaign Sign Recycling Program" to coincide with the 2024 election cycle.

“This community partnership meets an important need. We hope that residents of Leon County will use these recycling centers once the signs are no longer needed,” League president Trish Neely said.

“Rather than letting them pile up, residents will be able to recycle them at any one of several convenient centers. Instead of simply tossing the signs aside and throwing them in the garbage, varying parts and pieces will be reused or disposed of responsibly.”

Leon County is providing the drop-off sites, and the Supervisor of Elections Office is working to inform the candidates and voters about the project. Marpan will provide and collect the containers where residents deposit the signs and then will take them to their recycling center on Woodville Highway.

League volunteers will then separate the signs from their supporting H-frames, and Marpan will bale the signs and frames and send them off for recycling.

Sign recycling bins will be available for one week at each Leon County Public Library site. They will be in the parking lots of all branches from Aug. 21-28 following the primary vote and from Nov. 6-13 after the general election.

Sign recycling sites will be at:

  • Dr. B.L. Perry Branch Library, 2817 S. Adams St.

  • Eastside Branch Library, 1583 Pedrick Rd.

  • Jane G. Sauls Fort Braden Branch Library, 16387 Blountstown Highway

  • Lake Jackson Branch Library, 3840 N. Monroe St.

  • Bruce J. Host Northeast Branch Library, 5513 Thomasville Rd.

  • Woodville Branch Library, 8000 Old Woodville Rd.

Because Florida law allows candidates 30 days to remove political advertisements, recycling bins also will be available at the following additional sites from Aug. 21 to Sept. 19 after primary voting and from Nov. 6 to Dec. 5 after the general election:

  • Leon County Elections Center, 2990-1 Apalachee Parkway

  • Leon County Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Site, 1800 N. Blair Stone Road

  • Marpan Recycling, 6020 Woodville Highway
