Election Day live updates: Voters reject most city propositions on ballot

Tuesday is Election Day around the Panhandle, Texas and across the United States.

With races for U.S. President, Senate, House of Representatives and a host of local issues on the ballot, voter turnout has already been high, according to local election officials.

Polls close at 7 p.m., but voters in line by 7 p.m. will not be turned away.

Potter County voters select Fairly for District 87

10:24 p.m.: Caroline Fairly, considered the favorite in the state House Representative race for District 87, got 22,223 votes or 72.57% to Democratic challenger Tim Gassaway's 8,388 votes, or 27.39% in Potter County.

Incumbent HR Kelly wins Potter County race

10:24 p.m.: Republican HR Kelly, who has served on the Potter County Commissioner’s Court for 16 years, won his re-election in Precinct 1, with 7,182 votes, or 70.66%. Challenger David Martinez received 29.34%, or 2,982 of the votes.

Final unofficial results: Voters reject most city propositions on ballot

10:09 p.m.: The city of Amarillo posted its final unofficial results as of 10:06 p.m., with all early votes and Election Day precincts reporting for Potter and Randall counties.

Proposition A, the abortion ordinance to declare a Sanctuary City for the Unborn, failed to pass, with 27,544 voters, or 40.54% in favor of it and 40,392 voters, or 59.46% voting against it.

Proposition B, to expand the city council seats by two, had a close margin with 31,541 people or 47.57% voting in favor of it, and 34,764 votes or 52.43% against.

Proposition C, to amend the city charter to stagger the mayor and council terms, failed to pass, with 26,118 people or 39.46% voting in favor and 40,078 or 60.54% against.

Proposition D, to amend the recall election procedures, had a close margin with 31,410 people or 49.26% vote for it and 32,355 or 50.74% against.

Proposition E, in regard to office vacancies, passed with 34,643 votes or 55.05% in favor, and 28,287 or 44.95% against.

Voters reject Proposition A as results narrow margins for Propositions B, D

9:53 p.m.: The city of Amarillo posted its preliminary results for the propositions as of 9:45 p.m., with early voting as well as 8 of 15 Potter County Election Day Polling Places and 16 of 17 Randall County Election Day Polling Places reporting. Voters were more split on Proposition B to add city council members, and D, to revise the recall process in the city charter, while the majority was showing against Proposition A, the abortion ordinance on the ballot.

Kelly leads with Potter County early voters

8:19 p.m.: In early voting for the race for Potter County Commissioner, Precinct 1, incumbent H R Kelly had 5,972 votes, or 71.46% to challenger David Martinez, who had 2,385 votes, or 28.54%. Republican candidates in all the other races had the overwhelming majority.
