The Eleventh Annual Phenix City Mayor’s Ball Scholarship Award Night is helping students on their academic journeys

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) — Thursday evening saw students and their families from across East Alabama gather to celebrate students taking the next step on their academic journeys.

The Eleventh annual Phenix City Mayor’s Ball Scholarship Award Night saw students receive endowments, scholarships and more. Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe hopes the money students receive now leads to lasting impacts on the communities they become a part of.

“The impact that I hope, that we hope it has, is that they can learn not if they become successful, but when they become successful they will implement something whatever community they are living in to be able to give and to be able to invest in people to have a better quality of life. That’s the ultimate goal.”

One of those award recipients was Gracie Bush. Her mother, Nicole, said they are excited to be receiving a scholarship.

“Yes. So, it’s very we’re very excited and we’re very pleased,” said Nicole Bush. “We’re blessed that Phenix City Mayor chose Gracie to be one of the recipients to receive the scholarship.”

The event is in its 11th year, and as a result, it has helped many students on their paths to college, vocational schools and other postsecondary education programs.

Lowe said he hopes it has led students to have a better quality of life.

“And we’ve been able to bless 500 kids with an opportunity to be able to go off and have a educational opportunity to have a hopefully a better quality of life,” said Lowe.

As for Gracie, when asked if she was excited about receiving a scholarship this year, she had just one thing to say, “Yes, I am.”
