‘It’s the end of an era’: Longtime Local 10 anchor Jacey Birch has a big announcement

Time to put that snooze button to work.

Jacey Birch, who’s been anchoring the WPLG Local 10 morning news for 10 years, is stepping away from the desk for a different gig (and schedule) at the station.

The South Florida native’s last day on the early shift was Friday.

In an Instagram post, she bid farewell to viewers alongside her co-anchor and “emotional support animal” Eric Yutzy.

“It’s the end of an era,” began the journalist’s caption. “Your girl needs some sleep! While I will miss this guy, I definitely will not miss the 2 a.m. daily alarm clock!”

Yutzy seconded the emotion, posting a throwback pic.

“Wow what a ride.. We look so young in our first AM show together, and somehow you look younger a decade later. I’m blessed that the person I sat shoulder to shoulder with 5-6 hours a day for 10 years was a person I could absolutely vibe with. The chemistry was we became family fast and I’m so grateful for this connection, someone who I can rely any time of day for any reason whatsoever.”

The Pembroke Park-based station where Birch has worked for roughly 25 years in total confirmed that the longtime employee’s role would change.

“After a decade of arriving to work in the middle of the night to anchor the morning news, Jacey requested a schedule change,” said a statement emailed to the Miami Herald. “She had a great run in the morning and we understand the hours can be difficult.”

As for Birch, after returning from a three week vacation, she’ll anchor Saturday and Sunday nights with Sanela Sabovic, as well as report on her animal advocate beat Monday through Wednesday.

“Can’t wait to get some real sleep,” Birch ended her post, adding she would now be able to spend more time with Jupiter, the 7-year-old son she shares with her ex, meteorologist Trent Aric.

“It’s been an amazing run, South Florida!”

Alex Finnie will take on Birch’s duties, starting Monday, the station said.
