Entertainer asks for Las Vegas community’s help after instruments, car stolen

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man is asking for the Las Vegas community’s help after he told 8 News Now his car and thousands of dollars worth of instruments inside it were stolen.

Mark Harper’s life revolves around music, as the independent entertainer makes it his mission to travel and perform across the country.

He told 8 News Now he mainly plays songs inspired by his favorite band, The Grateful Dead.

“That’s what The Grateful Dead is all about,” Harper said.

Harper said days after he scored tickets to see Dead & Company live at The Sphere in Las Vegas, the worst happened.

“I went to go see my car,” Harper recalled. “And I knew it was gone.”

He told 8 News Now his 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was stolen overnight from a parking garage on the north end of the Strip, with the majority of his instruments inside.

“I lost my helium tank and then I lost a djembe,” Harper said. “I lost several hand drums, I lost my harp.”

Harper told 8 News Now he drove to Las Vegas from Georgia, so he’s not sure how to get home, but more importantly, he is now without his means to make a living.

“Whoever stole my car,” he said. “They stole a big chunk of my artistic past, present, and mission.”

Harper said he has filed a report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and gone through all the proper channels, but he hopes someone in Southern Nevada may have seen something.

“I’m hoping that maybe whoever sees this,” Harper said of the on-air story. “Will return my Tahoe.”

He said he hopes he can return to the road to keep creating and doing the work he loves.

Anyone who may know where the car or instruments may be should contact LVMPD at 702-828-3111.
