Erie police charge 17-year-old boy as adult in dice game shooting that wounded man Sunday

Erie police accuse a teenage boy of firing gunshots at a group of people reportedly playing dice during a block party on the city's east side on Sunday night, wounding a man and damaging a residence and a vehicle.

Ra'Mere L. Rogers, 17, was arraigned Thursday afternoon on charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure on allegations he was the person who fired gunshots in the 400 block of East 24th Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Erie police charged Rogers under the Fisher Bill, a state law that permits juveniles accused of committing violent crime to be charged as adults. He was placed in the Erie County Prison on $250,000 bond following his arraignment.

A lawyer for Rogers was not listed on his criminal docket sheet Friday.

Erie police said a 20-year-old man was shot in the left elbow during the incident. He was taken to UPMC Hamot, where he underwent surgery, investigators wrote in the criminal complaint filed against Rogers.

Erie police officers who responded to the 400 block of East 24th Street after the shooting was reported found three shell casings in front of a residence and located a vehicle that had been struck by bullets, according to information in the affidavit of probable cause filed with the complaint. Police later learned that a nearby residence was struck by gunfire.

Several witnesses to the shooting gave police a description of the suspect. Within hours of the shooting, Erie police were sent to another location in the city after a woman reported her son had received messages from two people who threatened to shoot the woman's residence. Present during that interaction with police was Rogers, whose clothing and appearance were similar to the descriptions given of the shooter, the investigating detective wrote in the affidavit.

Two of the witnesses to the shooting were shown photo lineups and identified Rogers as the shooter from them, according to information in the affidavit.

Rogers is tentatively scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on Aug. 7, according to information in his criminal docket sheet.
