Escambia County sheriff identifies suspect who died jumping from Highway 90 bridge after chase

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A deputy’s dash camera captured three suspects bailing during a chase.

According to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, 22-year-old Trevion Moton was one of them.

Simmons said Moton died jumping off the Highway 90 bridge over the Escambia River.

Another suspect, 19-year-old Jaquaris Ethridge, survived the jump and was arrested.

A third suspect is still missing.

Deputies were chasing the suspects Monday after investigators linked the car to a drive-by shooting on Erress Boulevard.

The shooting left a 70-year-old woman with a gunshot wound in her neck.

Simmons called her an innocent bystander who’s now fighting for her life.

“She was sitting in the front yard and ended up being an unintended victim,” Simmons said.

According to ECSO, the shooting was possibly retaliation for a shooting on Gonzalez Street in Pensacola last week.

Amid the violence, the sheriff’s office is looking to install more cameras in the Montclair area to add to their Real Time Crime Center.

“The thought there is that the more cameras the more information that we’ll have about an incident, perhaps even act as a deterrent to another incident,” Simmons said.

K-9 Streeter was injured jumping off the bridge after the suspects in the chase, but the sheriff said he’s doing much better.

“I was visited by him today; he and his handler Deputy Stimmel came by today just to I guess to show me he’s OK; he’s ready to work,” Simmons said.
