Evansville man accused of possessing, disseminating child sexual abuse imagery

EVANSVILLE — A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to the arrest of an Evansville man for possessing and disseminating child sexual abuse imagery.

The Indiana State Police publicly identified the man as 24-year-old Benjamin Jacob Seger. He faces several charges, including child solicitation, a Level 5 felony, and the possession of child pornography where the victim is under the age of 12, a Level 4 felony.

According to state police Sgt. John Davis, the agency's Internet Crimes Against Children task force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in January alleging that a specific online account in the Evansville area was possibly used to transmit images and videos depicting child sexual abuse.

The task force opened an investigation, and in March it executed a search warrant at a location in Evansville.

As a result of the search, the ISP zeroed in on Seger. On Monday, the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office filed charges against him, and on Tuesday, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's deputies arrested him.

"Seger was transported to the Vanderburgh County jail without incident," Davis wrote in a news release.

The Jasper Police Department assisted with the investigation, Davis said.

According to court records, Seger is being held on a $100,000 bond. He made his initial appearance in Vanderburgh County Superior Court Tuesday morning and has filed a motion to obtain the evidence prosecutors have against him.

Seger is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 7 at 10 a.m.
