Explosion caused Wyoming Valley Mall to close, multiple injured

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An explosion at a new restaurant at the Wyoming Valley Mall caused it to close and left multiple people injured.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Fire Department, crews responded to the Wyoming Valley Mall on Thursday around 11:47 a.m. for an activated fire alarm.

Crews said a second call came in for an explosion inside K-Pot Korean BBQ and Hot Pot, with multiple people reportedly suffering from burns all over their bodies.

Two people were transferred by helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Burn Center.

Wilkes-Barre Township Fire Department says the explosion blew up the sprinkler system and started to flood the new restaurant, prompting them to evacuate the mall.

The emergency has been ruled accidental, at this time there is no word on the current condition of the victims involved.
