Fatal collision on I-75 claims life of Ohio woman

Dec. 12—WILLIAMSBURG — A collision on Interstate 75 in Whitley County resulted in the death of a 24-year-old Ohio woman Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3:16 p.m. at the 15-mile marker in the southbound lanes of I-75. According to preliminary investigation by Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11 in London, Addison F. Bailey, 24, of Fayetteville, Ohio, was a passenger in a southbound 2015 Ford F-150 driving by 28-year-old Michael G. Waits of Lynchburg, Ohio, when the pickup struck a southbound semi freightliner driven by Qafa Alfreg, 44, of Commerce, Mich.

Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner's Office. Waits was transported by Whitley County EMS to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was treated and later released.

Trooper Shane Bowling of the Kentucky State Police is leading the ongoing investigation. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Whitley County Ambulance Service, Whitley County Fire Department, Whitley County Emergency Management, and the Whitley County Coroner's Office.

No additional details about the cause of the crash have been released at this time.
