1 dead in I-80/94 crash in Lake County, Indiana

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — One person was killed early Wednesday in a crash on I-80/94 in Lake County, Indiana.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash occurred around 1 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Calumet Avenue, about one mile east of the Illinois/Indiana state line.

The preliminary investigation shows a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound when it struck the barrier at the exit ramp to Calumet Ave.

The Jeep then came to a rest in the right lane of facing eastbound in the westbound lanes. The Jeep was then struck nearly head on by a tractor and trailer.

The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor and trailer was not injured.

Major delays were reported in the area as police investigated.
