Driver killed, 2 people hurt in Malibu head-on collision
One person died, and two others were injured when two vehicles collided head-on in Malibu Thursday evening on a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway that is notorious for deadly crashes.
The collision occurred around 10:15 p.m. near Carbon Canyon Road.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the driver of a 2019 white Mercedes Benz sedan was traveling eastbound when they crossed the center median and collided with a 2020 Cadillac SUV traveling westbound.
“As a result of the collision, the driver of the Cadillac succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” the sheriff’s department said. “The passenger of the Cadillac and the driver of the Mercedes Benz were transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”

Both directions of Pacific Coast Highway were closed Friday morning for the investigation. It was not immediately known if DUI was a factor.
Authorities are urging witnesses to call the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station at (818) 878-1808.
This collision occurred in roughly the same area where four Pepperdine students were killed by a driver in October 2023. Since then, local and state authorities have implemented several measures to improve safety on PCH, where at least 59 people have died since 2010.
Those measures include new signs, cameras, increased patrols and a recently launched public safety campaign featuring Malibu resident and Star Wars star Mark Hamill.
