Federal judge blocks Iowa deportation law
A federal judge blocked an Iowa law related to people with deportation orders or who have previously been denied entry to the United States.
The judge ruled the law that gives Iowa law enforcement the authority to file criminal charges against those people likely oversteps federal law. He issued a temporary restraining order. The law, SF 2340, gives migrants taken into custody the option to leave the country or face prosecution and potentially time in prison. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird says the state will appeal. The ACLU of Iowa is one of the groups that is fighting the law in court.
