Feud between neighbors ends in dog being shot, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two neighbors in Binghampton face charges after an argument led to a shooting, resulting in a dog being injured, Memphis Police say.

Devion Cannon, 32, is charged with Aggravated Assault and Violation of a Protection Order. George Burks, 58, is charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

On May 5, Burks filed a restraining order on Cannon due to previous events. The order was served to Cannon on May 8.

On May 12, Burks was at Young’s Food Mart on Scott Street when Cannon allegedly pulled up in a Chevy Tahoe. As Burks walked out of the store, Cannon pulled out a gun, cocked it, and pointed it at him, police say.

Burks called the police because he was in fear of his life.

On July 15, officers responded to an aggravated assault in the 300 block of Harrell Street.

According to reports, Burks went outside with a gun because Cannon was near his fence. The two got into an argument and both of their dogs started jumping on the fence.

Police say Burks shot Cannon’s dog and then fired several more shots at his neighbor who ran into his home. Burks reportedly walked around his front yard yelling that he was going to kill Cannon and his girlfriend.

Burks reportedly admitted to MPD that he shot Cannon’s dog.
