Fight at Asheville's Livingston Apartments leaves 1 dead; police investigating

ASHEVILLE - A fight the afternoon of July 13 in the River Arts District has left one dead according to a news release from the Asheville Police Department.

Asheville police officers responded to a report of a fight with weapons at an apartment complex on Depot Street around 7:22 p.m. on July 13.  There, they found a man suffering from serious injuries from the altercation. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

Information on the victim's identity is being withheld until detectives complete next-of-kin notifications.

"I can confirm that officers responded to a report of a fight with weapons (as coded by dispatch) at Livingston Apartments. Upon arrival, they found a man with serious injuries resulting from blunt force trauma sustained during a physical altercation (no weapons.)," APD spokesperson Samantha Booth told the Citizen Times July 13 via email.

Booth also said a person of interest has been taken into custody and that there is no current threat to the public. An investigation by Asheville police detectives continues, she said.

This is the sixth homicide this year in the City of Asheville.
