Fight in the street leads to one arrest

Jul. 10—TRAVERSE CITY — A melee between two men and a pregnant woman in the middle of South Airport Road resulted in injuries, a bite, and an arrest, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office reported.

Witnesses called the sheriff's office to report the incident around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

According to the news release, a 39-year-old man from Garfield Township got out of his car at the stoplight near Lafranier Road. He is suspected of assaulting a 22-year-old man from Fife Lake, police said.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing one man repeatedly punch another man in the face and head. Police said the 22-year-old man sustained swelling in those areas and a nose injury from the attack.

A 25-year-old woman from Fife Lake was bitten on the arm by the 39-year-old suspect after she attempted to separate the two men.

According to the report, the suspect was not injured. Police later arrested him near his home in Garfield Township on two counts of simple assault. He is being held in Grand Traverse County Jail.
