Fire erupts in sprawling Southern California warehouse complex

Crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were working to extinguish a large fire in a commercial building in Norwalk on Monday.

Firefighters responded to reports of the blaze just after 5 p.m. in the 14600 block of Carmenita Road, just north of the 5 Freeway.

When they arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the rear section of the sprawling warehouse complex.

Forced to take a defensive position on the fire, crews deployed ladder trucks to get a handle on the structure fire and were able to stop the flames from spreading to the front portion of the building where the business’ offices appear to be.

Reporting from Sky5, KTLA’s Gil Leyvas said at least two of the warehouses were destroyed by the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Carmenita Road was expected to remain closed in the area while crews continued to put the fire out and clean up.
