Fire sparks at historic Las Vegas apartment: officials

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — According to its homeowners association president, a fire sparked Sunday night at a south valley apartment building rich with Las Vegas history.

The fire occurred at the Paradise Spa Apartments in south Las Vegas near the intersection of Las Vegas and Silverado Ranch boulevards. The blaze was reported just after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, with flames visible charring the complex.

Dennis Sapp, who identified himself as the homeowners association president at Paradise, said the property was rich in history.

“Marilyn Monroe did photo shoots here,” Sapp said. “Elvis Presley used to run through here, the Rat Pack used to run here, it was the place to be.”

Sapp said several buildings on the property have closed due to previous fires and other costly repairs.

“Living here has become dangerous,” Sapp said. “It used to be paradise.”

According to the CCFD, the building was vacant and no one was displaced. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
