Fires break out at 2 Los Angeles-area schools within 2 hour period
Investigations are underway after fires erupted at two different schools in the San Fernando Valley on Thursday night within just two hours of each other.
The first of the fires broke out at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. At about 9:30 p.m., firefighters encountered flames and smoke coming from an on-campus building.
It took nearly 40 firefighters only about 20 minutes to knock down the blaze. Damage occurred to the roof and exterior of the building, but no injuries were reported.
On Friday, damage to the roof of the building was visible. No cause was reported, and it’s unknown if the fire was an arson.
Just two hours later in nearby North Hollywood, a second fire was reported at Oakwood School at about 11:20 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found white smoke emerging from the wall of a building.
Responders cut through a door to gain access to the blaze, which was quickly put out. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
Officials will now determine whether the two fires are related and if they were started by arsonists.
