Fires in Placer County prompt evacuation orders

(FOX40.COM) — According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, two fires in Placer County caused evacuation orders to be enacted.

Lehi Fire

Around 5 p.m., deputies said that residents on Lehi Lane in the Newcastle area were being asked to leave immediately.

Just before 6 p.m., the sheriff’s office said evacuation orders had expanded to include the following areas: Autumn Wind, Winter Snow Court, Summer Star Way, and Lehi Lane.

Around 7:45 p.m., the fire’s progress had been stopped, officials said.

Around 8 p.m., all warnings had been lifted, but all mandatory evacuations remained in place.

At 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office said orders for Winter Snow Court, Autumn Wind Court, and Summer Star Way were downgraded to warnings. Evacuation order remains for all of Lehi Lane.

At 9:30 p.m., Lehi Lane evacuation orders remained in place. All other evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.

Cal Fire’s Nevada-Placer-Yuba unit said at 6:09 p.m. that the Lehi Fire grew from two acres to nine acres and one structure had become “involved.”

The agency added that the fire was started by “lawn mowing and dry grass.”

Weimar Fire

At 7:15 p.m., the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said all evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings and the evacuation warning in place along Serenity Ridge Road has been lifted.

Canyon Way has also been reopened.

For the Weimar Fire, an evacuation order is in place at Canyon Way, north of I-80, including Heavenly View and Oak Ridge.

Around 6:20 p.m., road closures were put into effect at Yankees Jims and Canyon Way at Weimar Cross Road.

Officials said the Weimar Fire is also about three acres large.

The sheriff’s office said deputies are also going door-to-door in the area and asking residents to evacuate.
