Sunny days and plenty of rain expected this week, including on July Fourth

This week’s forecast calls for sunny days ahead — but with plenty of rain and thunderstorms also on the way, the National Weather Service said Sunday.

The rainy weather will follow Sunday’s stormy weather, which drenched the Florida Panthers’ championship parade in Fort Lauderdale and led to flash flood warnings across the region, including for Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Monday’s forecast calls for a mostly sunny day, with a high near 89, and “feels-like” temperatures as high as 100, but there will be a 50% to 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms expected through the day, the weather service says. Tuesday and Wednesday also will be mostly sunny, with a chance of rain and thunderstorms.

On Thursday, July Fourth, it will be sunny with a high near 90, with a 50% chance of rain.

In a forecast discussion, the weather service said, “Sea-breeze showers and thunderstorms will be the main story through the week along with continued warmth. Heat index values will quietly creep back up through the week with the potential for heat advisories returning.”
