Flights delayed at Tri-Cities Airport amid global outage

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Some flights arriving and departing from Tri-Cities Airport have been delayed, the airport confirmed to News Channel 11.

Tri-Cities Airport told News Channel 11 that passenger flights may be delayed or canceled as a result of the global IT outage.

On Friday, a global technology outage grounded flights, interpreted banking services, affected DMV services and caused other widespread issues.

Kristi Haulsee, director of Marketing and Air Service Development, said the airport has never experienced this type of issue.

“Passengers will need to have as much patience as possible,” said Haulsee. “This is affecting the global air systems. So it will actually take probably several days depending on how quickly this is resolved. It could take a week or so before the system is fully back to a regular schedule.”

As of 10 a.m., two arriving Delta flights are late, and two departing Delta flights are delayed, according to the Tri-Cities Airport flight tracker.

Passengers are encouraged to track their flight status directly with the airline. Airline contact information can be found here.

“We’ve had several flights delayed and canceled today,” Haulsee said. Mostly, those have been on Delta, and the Allegiant flight for today has been canceled as well. So our passengers are having to try to book additional flights and find out what’s going on with their airline. So we recommend that passengers try to communicate directly with their airline.”

Virginia DMV, Dominion Energy affected by global IT outage

The Associated Press reported that a software update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike was affecting computers running Microsoft Windows and was not a security incident or cyberattack.

Tennessee’s Department of Safety and Homeland Security stated that due to the outage, local Driver Services Centers may be unable to process transactions.

Although various healthcare facilities are impacted, Ballad Health confirmed to News Channel 11 that it wasn’t impacted; however, some of its post-acute centers are busy due to the outage.
