Flood watch issued for Columbus, surrounding counties through Wednesday night

The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a flood watch for Columbus, Franklin County and a slew of surrounding counties Tuesday morning as heavy rainfall loomed in the forecast.

Central Ohio counties Franklin, Fairfield, Madison, Licking and Pickaway are included in the watch's area, along with over a dozen others across southern Ohio. The watch is in effect from noon Tuesday through Wednesday evening.

Up to two inches of rain is predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday, with the heaviest stuff coming down Tuesday night, according to an NWS Wilmington Forecast.

This amount of rain could cause flash flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, run-offs or other flood-prone locations, according to NWS Wilmington.

It's going to be a wet couple of days.

  • Tuesday: There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. It'll be mostly cloudy with a high near 89. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.

  • Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms are likely, then showers and a thunderstorm are possible after 1 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. The low will be around 70. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch are possible.

  • Wednesday: Showers are predicted and a thunderstorm is possible. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. The high will be near 80. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.

  • Wednesday Night: Showers are likely and a thunderstorm is possible before 8 p.m. It'll be mostly cloudy with a low around 63. The chance of precipitation is 60%. There will be rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, but more could fall if it storms.

  • Thursday: It'll be mostly sunny with a high near 80.

  • Thursday Night: It'll be mostly clear with a low around 58.

  • Friday: It'll be sunny with a high near 82.

  • Friday Night: It'll be mostly clear with a low around 60.

  • Saturday: It'll be sunny with a high near 85.

  • Saturday Night: It'll be mostly clear with a low around 63.

  • Sunday: It'll be mostly sunny with a high near 86.

  • Sunday Night: It'll be partly cloudy with a low around 65.
