According to police, investigations began when they were alerted by university staff about a possible miscarriage on campus.

Eventually, a deceased infant was found and later identified as Moore’s child, according to the release.

According to the release, the baby’s autopsy showed that it died due to asphyxia and multiple rib fractures. The baby’s death was ruled as a homicide.

Moore was arrested on Oct. 18 in Mississippi. She was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, child neglect with great bodily harm failure to report death and unlawful storage of human remains, according to the release.

Moore is currently being held at Lauderdale County Jain, awaiting extradition back to Tampa.

According to a news release from Hillsborough State Attorney Suzy Lopez, on April 27, Moore’s roommates reported hearing a baby crying before finding blood in their shared bathroom.

At the time, police were called and Moore denied being pregnant. She told police the blood in the bathroom was from her period, the release said.

On April 28, Moore’s roommates found a bloody towel inside a trashcan and once again called the police. That is when officers found the newborn wrapped inside the towel.

Moore then admitted to delivering the baby in the bathroom and “holding the baby tightly to her body until she stopped crying. She told investigators she placed the baby in a towel and put her in the trashcan,” the release said.

According to the release, a Safe Haven Law is currently active in the State of Florida. The law allows parents to anonymously surrender infants up to thirty days old who are unharmed to any fire station, EMS station or hospital.
