TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man was arrested on Monday for making threats against President Joe Biden and other federal officials, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

Jason Patrick Alday, 39, of Quincy, Florida was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service after he allegedly sent threatening messages and made threats against the president, the DOJ said.

Alday made his first appearance in federal court and was ordered detained pending trial.

The Secret Service is investigating the case.

Alday’s arrest comes following the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump by the alleged shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crook, who fired several shots at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.

Trump said this week that one bullet clipped his right ear and that only a last-second turn of his head kept him from potentially being mortally wounded. One of the bullets aimed toward Trump killed 50-year-old firefighter Corey Comperatore, a spectator who was in the bleachers. Two others were seriously wounded.

Trump’s campaign said the former president was “fine” after the shooting.

When Trump entered the Republican National Convention on Monday for his first public appearance since the shooting, he was seen wearing a white bandage over his right ear.

Crooks was killed by the Secret Service.

While the investigation into Trump’s attempt assassination is ongoing, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security sent a memo that said law enforcement should be concerned about “retaliatory acts of violence in response,” NewsNation reported.
