Florida man has been impersonating officers for a decade: sheriff

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man has been impersonating law enforcement since he was 16, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.

On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, the sheriff’s office said Christopher Levins was first arrested in 2013 for trying to arrest someone while wearing a police uniform. He served nine months at a youth academy before being released.

In 2016, at the age of 18, Levins impersonated an undercover agent and K-9 handler, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. While awaiting trial, Levins reportedly impersonated a Homeland Security officer at the youth academy where he originally spent time.

In 2017, he was reportedly arrested at the University of South Florida for impersonating an FBI K-9 officer.

After getting out of prison in 2018, Levins pretended to be a police officer and handcuffed a woman, who he took to the Lake County jail.

Levins was investigated again in 2023 and has been charged with kidnapping for the 2018 incident, the sheriff’s office said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have encountered Levins to contact the office’s Intelligence Section at intel@ocsofl.com.
