Flying from Albuquerque International Sunport? What to know about delays, cancellations

In New Mexico, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, SkyWest Airlines and Southwest announced flight delays and cancellations after Microsoft said a cloud-service-related outage impacted carriers.

Outages linked to cybersecurity update

The issue was global, as hundreds of U.S. flights were canceled Friday morning.

USA TODAY reported the cybersecurity update caused outages that affect not only flights, but bank operations, medical facilities and public transit systems.

"The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed," said a statement from CrowdStrike published by USA TODAY. The company's CEO, George Kurtz, apologized for the disruptions in an interview with NBC's Today. Microsoft, meanwhile, said "the underlying cause has been fixed," but residual impacts will affect some of its Microsoft 365 apps and services.

The status information provided below indicates general airport conditions; it is not flight specific. Check with your airline to determine if your flight is affected, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Albuquerque International Sunport status

There was a total of 19 delays and one cancelation reported at the Albuquerque International Sunport, according to flightaware.com.

  • Departure traffic to Dallas Forth Worth (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL); Denver International (DAL); William P. Hobby (HOU); Harry Reid International (LAS); and San Diego Airport (SAN) was impacted.

  • Incoming traffic from Dallas Forth Worth (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL); Denver International (DAL); William P. Hobby (HOU); Harry Reid International (LAS); and San Diego Airport (SAN) was impacted.

Just one American Airlines flight had been canceled as of Friday morning.

Las Cruces International Airport status

There were no delays or cancelations out of the Las Cruces International Airport reported, according to flightaware.com.

Flight status at other southern New Mexico airports

  • Roswell International Airport: No cancelations or delays

  • Lea County Regional Airport in Hobbs: No cancelations or delays

  • Deming City Airport: No cancelations or delays

  • Cavern City Air Terminal: No cancelations or delays

Frontier Airlines stated passengers whose flights were affected by the outage can request refunds.
